| The
Street
The
area of street that was fenced off for the event was around
270m long by 12m wide. On the beach side there was around
22m of grass reserve and 20m of beach at low tide. The opposite
side had just 2m of pavement which had to be left as a right
of way for those not attending the event.
The Set Up
The portable stage for the
dance party was placed across the road so the maximum number
of people could dance in front of the stage without bumping
into the various obstructions on the grass like picnic tables
and small boat storage racks. As Organiser of the event Peter
Sinclair used a small electric scooter to get from one end
of the street to the other during set up and event.
Kids Entertainment
The event kicked off at 4pm with music, rides and entertainment
aimed at familles with young children. The day was very windy few
families ventured out.
Jazz Band
After the Kids show a local Jazz Band provided more entertainment
for the families
Carnival
A carnival atmosphere was created with food stalls, rides,
clowns and face painting for people of all ages.
Dance Band
In the early evening while the families were still present
and the teenagers and young adults were gathering a Dance
Band provided some laid back dance music music.
Pride in the Site
As the party was in an enclosed licensed area with caterers
providing food, soft drinks and alcohol it was important
to keep the site clean and tidy throughout.
This, together with the care shown by security and event
staff towards the partygoers, helped to create a safe
friendly environment to party.
Dance Party Atmosphere
By around 10.30pm the families had left and the street
resembled the dance floor at a major dance party. The lighting
and music played by the DJ encouraged people to dance
rather than get drunk and cause trouble.
Happy New Year
The Countdown to the new year followed by the only
fireworks of the night (it was too windy for the 9pm display)
created a terrific party atmosphere to round off the night.
Comments came back such as " This was the best New Years
Eve we have ever had"
